Miscreants attempt to kill UP chairman in Satkhira
Miscreants attempted to kill a union parishad chairman in Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira this evening.
Abdur Rahim, chairman of Koikhali Union Parishad, is now undergoing treatment at Satkhira Sadar Hospital with injuries to the head and mouth, said Dr Omar Faruk Chowdhury, resident medical officer of Shyamnagar Upazila Health Complex.
Talking to our Satkhira correspondent over phone, the chairman said he came under the attack by a group of miscreants at his union parishad office around 7:30pm.
He also said a group of 15-16, with their faces covered, on eight-nine motorcycles rushed to the office and stormed into his room and fired a bullet at him.
As the bullet missed him, the attackers hacked him with machetes and sharp weapons and also beat him with iron rods, leaving him injured critically.
Abdur Rahim claimed that his rival carried out the attack.
Mamun Hossain, nephew of the victim, said his uncle was first taken to Shyamnagar Upazila Health Complex from where he was shifted to the Sadar Hospital as his physical condition deteriorated.
Confirming the matter, Md Nazmul Huda, officer-in-charge of Shyamnagar Police Station, said they are looking into the matter.
