On May Day, a worker dies after falling from under-construction minaret in Pirojpur

A construction worker died after falling from an under-construction minaret in Nesarabad upazila of Pirojpur today.
The incident happened as the globe observed the historic May Day today with a pledge to establish the rights of workers.
The deceased was identified as Linchand (30), son of Wahab Gazi of Chandipur village in Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat, reports our Pirojpur correspondent.
Talking to local journalists, Nayeem, another construction worker, said Linchand fell from the minaret around 3:30pm while he along others were working at a height of 170 feet of the minaret for Charchhina Darbar Sharif.
He was rushed to Nesarabad Health Complex where doctors declared him dead, Nayeem added.
However, Shamim Sheikh, the contractor for the under- construction minaret, said the work on the minaret remained closed today due to the May Day. Linchand climbed the minaret to cover some equipment.
Abir Mohammad Hasan, officer-in-charge of Nesharabad Police Station, said the body was sent to Pirojpur District Hospital morgue for autopsy.
The OC also said further legal action would be taken in this regard after an investigation.
