Lightnings kill two

Two people were killed and another injured in separate incidents of lightning in Khulna and Faridpur on Saturday, report our correspondents.

In Khulna, a man was killed and another injured when a streak of lightning struck them in the Rupsha river around 10:30pm on Saturday.

The deceased is Madan Biswas, 30, of Sharapur village in Dumuria upazila.

Locals said the duo sustained injuries while they were fishing in the Rupsha river amid heavy rain on Saturday night.

Villagers took them to Khulna Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared Madan dead.

Injured Kartik Biswas, 35, is now undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Away in Faridpur, a farmer was killed when a thunderbolt struck him at Joypasha village in Boalmari upazila around 6:30pm. 

The deceased was identified as Khokon Chowdhury, 51, of the village.

Nannu Mia, a member of Parameshwardi union parishad (UP) said a thunderbolt struck Khokon while he was catching fish at Ejara Beel on Saturday evening, leaving him dead on the spot.
