Land dispute: Man killed in Patuakhali, mother-daughter beaten in Natrakona
Land related dispute has led to the death of a man in Patuakhali and assault on a mother-daughter duo in Netrakona.
In Patuakhali, Md Reazul Islam, 30, son of Abul Kalam of Galachipa upazila was allegedly beaten by some neighbours yesterday evening, our local correspondent reports.
Rezaul, a fish trader by profession, was returning home when miscreants attacked and beat him, Akther Morshed, officer-in-charge(OC) of Galachipa Police Station said quoting victim’s family.
“Rezaul had Tk one lakh with him at the time of the incident which he had withdrawn from bank earlier,” claimed Rezaul’s brother Mamun Hossain Liton.
Locals rushed the injured to Galachipa Upazila Health Complex from where he was transferred to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, the OC said.
Rezaul succumbed to his injuries at the hospital this morning.
Victim’s family accused that the attackers are their neighbours with whom they have long-standing dispute regarding lands.
Victim’s brother filed a case with Galachipa Police Station accusing 17 people. Police has already arrested 13 people in this connection, the police official added.
In Barhatta upazila of Netrakona, a mother and her college-going girl were seriously injured after miscreants beat them up over land dispute, reports our local correspondent.
The victims are Majeda Akter, 45, and her daughter Asha Moni Akter, 18, a first-year student at Barhatta Govt College.
Quoting the victims, Md Badrul Alam Khan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Barhatta Police Station said after the death of Majeda’s husband Shahjahan Mia, their neighbour Monjurul Islam used to quarrel with them over a piece of disputed land.
Monjurul allegedly abused the daughter yesterday afternoon on a road near their house. As the girl protested, he locked in an altercation with her and at one stage started beating her with a stick, said police quoting the victims.
Hearing the scrams, the mother rushed to the spot but Monjurl also beat up her indiscriminately. Two other cohorts of Monjurul also joined him in the act.
Hearing the cry for help of the duo, local people rescued and rushed them to Barhatta Upazila Health Complex. The victims sustained injuries in different parts of their bodies including head, said the OC quoting the doctors at the hospital.
On information, Upazila Nirbahi Officer(UNO) of Barhatta Farida Yeasmin visited the victims at the hospital.
Majeda lodged a case with Barhatta Police Station accusing some seven persons including Monjurul this noon.
