Inflation rose to 5.5% in March

Bangladesh’s inflation crept up to 5.5 per cent in March, still within the government’s target of 5.6 per cent set in the budget for fiscal 2018-19.

Comparing statistics, the rate was 5.47 per cent in February. Analysing on a year-to-year basis, the inflation in March 2018 was higher at 5.68 per cent.

Planning Minister MA Mannan unveiled the statistics at a press briefing today, organised at the planning commission in Dhaka’s Agargaon.

Food inflation was the primary reason behind the inflation widening, logging in at 5.72 per cent in March 2019. This was 5.44 per cent in February.

Non-food inflation, on the other hand, shrank to 5.29 per cent in March, what was 5.51 per cent in the previous month of February.

Bangladesh’s government aimed to keep the inflation within 5.6 per cent while unveiling its Tk Tk4,64,573 crore budget for fiscal 2018-19.
