Housewife tortured to death: 6 sued, 2 held
A housewife, who was tortured allegedly by her in-laws in Sreenagar upazila of the district on June 21, died at Dhaka National Medical College Hospital on Sunday night.
The deceased, Shilpi Begum, 32, daughter of late Abul Hashem of Damla village, got married to Mosharraf Khan, son of Baser Khan of Shyamshindi village, ten years ago. They have an eight-year-old son.
A case was filed with Sreenagar Police Station by the victim's sister Shima Begum, accusing six people, the same night, said officer-in-charge Shahidur Rahman.
Soon after filing of the case, police arrested Shilpi's brother-in-law Awlad Hossain, 40, and sister-in-law Sonia Akhter, 26.
Mosharraf has been living in Dubai for the last four years. His family members used to torture Shilpi for the money that Mosharraf sent to her for family expenses, Shima told this correspondent.
On June 21, Shilpi was beaten up by her in-laws until she became unconscious. She was admitted to the Upazila Health Complex on the day. Later, she was taken to Dhaka National Medical College Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries, Shima said.
