Govt to inspect approved, unapproved pvt hospitals this month: DGHS

The government is going to start inspecting approved and unapproved private hospitals and diagnostic centres across the country on an urgent basis, said Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam, director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), today.
"We can't do it alone. We need help of administration, police and magistrate. Hopefully, I can start it this month," the DG said, responding to a query while talking to reporters after a meeting with Health Minister Zahid Maleque in the secretariat, reports UNB.
About the death of Senior ASP Anisul Karim, who was allegedly beaten to death by a hospital's staff, Abul Bashar said, "Any death is tragic."
He said according to the hospital authorities, the establishment got approval from the Department of Narcotics Control, but no approval from the Directorate General of Health Services.
The DG said if the hospital wants to offer psychiatric treatment, it must get approval from the DGHS.
"There are many hospitals without license across the country. Every divisional director was asked to give a list of licensed and unlicensed hospitals within three working days," the director general said.
