Four found dead
Four people, including a second grader, were found dead in Manikganj, Madaripur and Patuakhali yesterday.
The body of an eight-year-old girl was recovered from the Dhaleswari river in Manikganj’s Saturia upazila yesterday morning, a day after she went missing while bathing in the river.
The deceased was Sharmin Akhter, daughter of Shohagh Mia of Gopalpur village, and a student of Gopalpur Government Primary School, reports our correspondent.
On Wednesday afternoon, Sharmin went missing after going to bathe in the river with her friends.
Informed by locals, divers of Manikganj Fire Service recovered the body from the river around 10:30am, said Mizanur Rahman, deputy assistant director of the fire service.
At least three children, including Sharmin, drowned in rivers of the district since Eid day.
In Madaripur, police recovered the body of a farmer from the Arial Kha river in Rajarhat area of Sadar upazila around 10:00am, reports our Faridpur correspondent.
The deceased was Sobahan Matabbar, 50, of Mirakandi village.
Quoting family members, Sirajur Haque, sub-inspector (SI) of Sadar Police Station, said, “The farmer went to catch fish in the river around 8:00pm on Wednesday and went missing. Police recovered the body yesterday morning and sent it to Madaripur General Hospital for autopsy.”
In Patuakhali, the bodies of two unidentified persons, both aged around 35, were found in the Lohalia river of Baufal upazila in the morning, reports our correspondent.
Khandokar Mostafizur Rahman, OC of Baufal Police Station, said, “The bodies were sent to Patuakhali General Hospital for autopsy. I suspect the man was killed a week ago while the woman two or three days ago as the man’s body was rotten while the latter’s body bore injury marks.”
