Former Sylhet mayor Kamran laid to eternal rest
Former Sylhet mayor Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran was laid to rest at the graveyard on the premises of Hazrat Manik Pir shrine in the city this afternoon, at around 2:45pm.
At around 3:00am today, he breathed his last at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka. He was 69.
Kamran, a member of the central executive committee of Awami League, was flown to CMH from Sylhet on June 7 when his physical condition deteriorated after testing positive for coronavirus on June 5.
From CMH, his body was taken to Sylhet in an ambulance.
His first namaz-e-janaza was held after zohr prayer at the local mosque of Chhararpar where few family members and relatives took part.
The second janaza was held at the Shrine of Manik Pir, where only some political activists and administrative persons attended.
Though the administration and his political colleagues' plan was to arrange his namaz-e-janaza obeying protocol of infectious diseases, hundreds of people gathered in front of the graveyard where he was laid to eternal rest.
