A Dhaka court today sent former footballer Kaiser Hamid, currently standing committee member of Zaker Party, to jail in connection with a case of “fraudulence of money” filed with Banani Police Station in 2014.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mamunur Rashid passed the order after Md Shamsuddin, investigation officer of the case, produced Kaiser Hamid before the court.

Advocate Abu Syed filed a petition with the court seeking Kaiser’s bail, but the court denied the bail and sent to him jail.

The police forwarding report to the court said, “Kaiser and other accused formed a multi-level-marketing company named New Way Multi-Purpose Cooperative and took money from a number of people for the organisation. The organisation was closed down several years back.”

“For fair investigation of the case, Kaiser should be kept in the lockup until the investigation is finished,” it also said.

Earlier, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police on Sunday arrested Kaiser Hamid on charges of “fraudulence of money” in the capital’s Elephant Road area.
