Fifth grader raped by neighbour

A student of class five was allegedly raped by her neighbour in Keshabpur upazila of Jashore district last night.

The victim's mother filed a case with Keshabpur Police Station against the alleged rapist Nazrul Islam, 30, of Altapole village in the upazila, reports our Jashore correspondent quoting Md Saheen, officer-in-charge pf the police station.

The rapist has already been arrested, the OC said.

Nazrul Islam allegedly took the minor to a bamboo grove and raped her, the mother of the victim alleged. He also threatened to kill her daughter if she disclosed the incident, she added.

When the victim’s family members informed villagers, they insisted the family to settle the matter through negotiation instead of going to police station, the official said.

However, seeing no progress in the negotiation process, the mother filed the case, the correspondent reports.

The victim is now undergoing treatment at Khulna Medical College Hospital.
