DU student found dead, 2 arrested
A Dhaka University (DU) student was killed allegedly by her husband and in-laws' in Sadar upazila on Sunday.
The deceased, Sumaiya Khatun, 26, a master's student of Islamic Studies Department at DU, was found hanging from the ceiling of a room at her father-in-law's house in Harishpur Baganbari area on Sunday night.
Meanwhile, police arrested Sumaiya's mother-in-law Syeda Maleka, and sister-in-law Jui Khatun, after victim's mother Nuzhat Sultana filed a murder case with Sadar Police Station in connection with the incident on Monday night.
Police were raiding different areas to arrest Sumaiya's husband Mostaq Hossain and father-in-law Zakir Hossain, as they went into hiding since after the incident, Officer in Charge of Sadar Police Station Jahangir Alam said.
Sumaiya's uncle Ahmed Ali said Mostaq cheated Sumaiya by identifying himself as a BUET engineer and married her last year, but they came to know later that Mostaq was a diploma engineer and obtained the degree from a private technical college in Natore.
After their marriage, the couple used to live in Dhaka and Sumaiya's father Siddiqur Rahman bore all their expenses, as Mostaq was unemployed, Ahmed added.
