Drug trader gets life term

A court in Patuakhali yesterday awarded life term rigorous imprisonment (RI) to a drug peddler in a drug case.

Special Judge Md Shahid Ullah delivered the judgment yesterday in absence of the accused Md Sahin Ahmed, 35, son of Sultan Ahmed of Hazikhali village under Patuakhali Sadar upazila.

The convict was also fined Tk 20,000, in default to serve more six months in jail.

Earlier Shahin went into hiding after getting bail from the court, said advocate KBM Ariful Haq Tito, the state lawyer.

According to the prosecution, a Rab team arrested Shahin with 25 bottles of Phesidyl from Lohalia Kheya ghat in the town on June 13 in 2016. Later, Anwar Hossain, deputy assistant director of Patuakhali camp of Rab-8, filed a case with Patuakhali Police Station in his regard.

After investigating, Sub Inspector Md Humayun Kabir submitted charge sheet before the court on July 18 the same year.
