Ctg DoE fines 5 businesses Tk 23.5 lakh for environmental damage
The Department of Environment (DoE) in Chattogram region fined five businesses including Ashuganj 400MW combined cycle power plant Tk 23 lakh 50 thousand for damaging the environment.
The fines were imposed after a hearing at the DoE office in Khulshi today.
Mohammad Moazzom Hossain, director of DoE (Chattogram region) told The Daily Star that the power plant in Brahmanbaria was fined Tk 10 lakh for filling up portion of a river to expand its plant area, violating the conditions stipulated while issuing clearance certificate.
Arshi Metal Industry, Alam Chemical Industry and Arman Chemical Industry were fined Tk 10 lakh, Tk 2 lakh and Tk 1 lakh respectively for dysfunctional effluent treatment plants (ETP), the DoE director said.
A brick kiln in Ramu upazila of Cox's Bazar was fined Tk 50,000 for environmental damage, he added.
