Comment on judiciary: SC refuses to accept Fakhrul’s unsigned affidavit

The Supreme Court today refused to accept the explanation of BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on his comment about the judiciary as the affidavit did not have his signature.
Fakhrul will have to sign the affidavit containing the explanation and submit it by tomorrow, his lawyer Sagir Hossain Leon told The Daily Star.
Earlier in the day, Fakhrul submitted his explanation through his advocate on record but the court refused to accept the affidavit as it was signed by his advocate on record.
A five-member bench of the appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha fixed tomorrow for hearing on the issue.
When asked about the explanation, Leon told our court correspondent that Fakhrul in his explanation apologises to the apex court for his comment about judiciary.
Explain comment on judiciary by Monday
On February 18, the Supreme Court asked Fakhrul to explain his comment on the judiciary by today (February 22).
Different newspapers reported that Fakhrul, while addressing a party meeting in Sylhet on February 7, alleged that the government was trying to control the judiciary.
