Cash aid for 12,726 underprivileged families
Plan International Bangladesh, an NGO working for the unprivileged children in Bangladesh, has provided cash grants support among the families of 12,726 beneficiary children in Teesta River basin.
The grant equivalent to Tk 6cr 36 lakhs 30 thousand was given among 4,355 families in Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat and 8,371 families in Jaldhaka upazila in Nilphamari.
Each of the families of the children was given Tk 5,000.
Biploby Rani Dey, communications specialist of Plan International Bangladesh at Rangpur Divisional Office, said this cash grant support has been provided through Mobile Money Transfer (MMT) to 12,226 families and the rest 500 families received the cash in hand.
"The objective of the cash grants distribution is to enable the families of the children to cope with the difficult situation due to Covid-19 pandemic," she said.
"These families will use this cash to meet their nutritional needs and purchase educational materials," she added.
"We are happy getting cash grants support by Plan International Bangladesh in this challenging time. We will spend the money for our children' education, but we will also have to spend some of the money for family need," said Mokseda begum, mother of a beneficiary child of Char Sindurna of Hatibandha upazila in Lalmonirhat.
"I have completed the board registration of my daughter who is a ninth-grader with the grant. I am grateful to Plan International Bangladesh," said Ankhi Begum of the same char area.
Sindurna Union Parishad Chairman Nural Amin said, the money will benefit the children's families a lot.
Interim Divisional Manager of Plan International Bangladesh Dr Hrishikesh Sarker, Assistant Sponsorship Manager of Plan International Bangladesh Hasinul Kabir and chairmen of the Union Parishads and members of Community Based Organisation were present at the distribution of cash grants support among the beneficiary children's families in the Teesta basin areas in two upazilas.
