Body of newborn found in septic tank in Satkhira; parents arrested
The body of a newborn was found in a septic tank early today, 38 hours after the parents said that their 15-day-old had gone missing from their home in Sadar upazila of Satkhira.
Police recovered the body from the septic tank of their house at Hawlakhali village around 2:00am today based on information given by the child's mother, said Asaduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
The OC said they arrested parents Sohag Hossain and Fatema Khatun on suspicion of their involvement in the killing.
Fatema alleged that the baby, Sohan, was missing from the veranda of the house since Thursday noon, reports our Satkhira correspondent.
Mirza Salahuddin, additional superintendent (Sadar Circle) of Satkhira Police, said Fatema had admitted during primary interrogation that her husband had dumped the baby into the septic tank and said the baby had been stolen.
The police official said, according to doctors, the child had been suffering from different diseases, including jaundice and pneumonia, since birth. Moreover, the baby was born one month before the due date. His weight was also much less.
The additional SP suspected that the child was also disabled. He suspected Sohag had Fatema's consent in murdering the child.
OC Asaduzzaman further said the body was sent to Satkhira Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
