Betel nut trader murdered in Bagerhat

A betel nut trader was killed in Morrelgonj upazila of Bagerhat yesterday.

The deceased, Mofizul Islam Sardar (48), was a resident of Kismat Gharghata village of the upazila, reports our correspondent quoting police.

Victim's brother Taizul Sardar claimed their rival Hasib Sardar slit his brother's throat at 6:40pm yesterday in front many people when they went out of home to perform Maghrib prayers.

Pankaj Chandra Roy, superintendent of police (SP) of Bagerhat district, said there was enmity over betel nut business between Mofizul and Hasib.

He said they recovered the body and sent it to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Police have launched operation to nab those involved in the killing, informed the SP.

No case has been registered till filing this report in connection with the killing.
