BCL men cut off ex-BCL man's fingers

A group of Chhatra League men today allegedly severed four fingers of a former leader of the ruling Awami League’s student front in Kalaroa upazila of Satkhira.

The victim GM Tushar, 28, was Chhatra League’s vice-president of the upazila unit, our local correspondent reports quoting police.

According to witnesses and family members, around 10 BCL men swooped on Tushar and severed four fingers of his right hand near a school in the upazila town around 11:00am following the feud of a piece of land.

They also beat him with rods and managed to flee the sport leaving him critically injured, they said.

Tushar was taken to Kalaroa Upazila Health Complex and then shifted to Satkhira Sadar Hospital, doctors said.

Later, he was flown to Dhaka by a helicopter for better treatment as his condition deteriorated, said Fazlul Haque, an activist of local Awami League.

Md Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Kalaroa Police Station, said a case has been filed against five people including Sagor Hossain and Mehedi Hassan Nahis, president and general secretary of the upazila unit BCL respectively.

Police has already detained Rejaul Karim, who is among the five accused in the case, the OC said.
