BCL man's hand severed, party leader arrested
A Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader was held yesterday on charge of severing a hand of a party rival in Ishwardi upazila of the district.
The arrestee, Md Sadrul Haque Pintu, 25, of village Char-Rooppur in the upazila, is the president of Pakshey union unit of BCL.
On June 1, Pintu's men severed the wrist of Md Sourav Hasan Tuntuni, 17, a Class X student and an activist of the union unit of BCL, over enmity in the party and influence in the area. They paraded the streets of Pakshey carrying the severed hand of the victim.
A case was filed against Pintu and his men the day after the incident. After that, Pintu went into hiding.
Receiving information, police arrested him when he came to his area on Wednesday morning, police said.
Biman Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Ishwardi Police Station, said, acting on a tip-off, police arrested Pintu from Char-Rooppur area at around 10:00am yesterday.
He tried to flee away from the police, but they caught him at Char-Rooppur Tin-Bottola area after a chase, the OC said.
