Barrier removed at last
Now Moutusi can go to school with ease as the brick wall that blocked the way from her home was demolished in presence of local administration officials on Saturday.
Zannat Binte Moutusi, 10, daughter of Mahfuzur Rahman of Chuniapara in Khoksa upazila town under the district, is a Class V student at Janipur Model Primary School.
Mahfuzur, 55, a former driver at Water Development Board, recently retired due to eye problem.
He lives at his house on one bigha of land at Chuniapara with his wife, daughter Moutusi and a 30-year-old son.
One year ago, his two neighbours Prashad Biswas and Jibon Biswas built brick wall on their own lands following a conflict with each other.
The walls blocked the way, forcing Mahfuzur's family members to use ladder to cross the wall for their movement from home.
Several days ago, local daily Dainik Kushtia published a story with a picture that showed Moutusi cross the wall with the help of a ladder to go to her school.
The matter raised voice on social media too.
“During the last one year, I moved to the local administration and public representatives and arbitration was held on around a dozen occasions over the issue but Prashad and Jibon remained adamant not to spare any land for me. Lastly when they agreed, they demanded exorbitant price,” Mahfuzur said.
Finally the local administration took the matter seriously.
On Saturday, a team led by acting Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Nur e-Alam accompanying Khoksa municipality Mayor Torikul Islam and Officer-in-Charge ABM Mehedia Masud visited the spot.
The UNO called a meeting at the spot where Prashad Biswas and Jibon Biswas agreed to spare the necessary land to Mahfuzur for a passage, which the latter will buy with reasonable price.
The wall was broken down and the parties concerned signed an agreement.
“Now I am happy, thank you journalists and others concerned,” said Moutusi with tears of joy rolling down her cheeks.
