Awami League lawmaker and former state minister Md Mozammel Hossain passed away at a hospital in Dhaka early today. He was 80.
Mozammel, a freedom fighter, breathed his last around 12:30am while being treated at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), reports our Bagerhat correspondent.
The namaz-e-janaza of the lawmaker of Bagerhat-4 constituency was held at the south plaza of Jatiya Sangsad building.
Dhaka district administration accorded a guard of honour before the coffin, which was draped with national flag.
President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury placed floral wreaths at his coffin.
Deputy Speaker Md Fazle Rabbi Mia MP, Chief Whip Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury MP, Whip Iqbalur Rahim MP, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque and other important personalities also paid their respects.
Afterwards, the PM and speaker took part at a prayer meeting held for the deceased.
The speaker, deputy speaker and chief whip also expressed deep condolences at the departure Md Mozammel Hossain.
