77pc Boro paddy harvested so far: agriculture ministry
Farmers in haor region have so far harvested about 77 percent of their Boro paddy amid shortage of workers due to the lockdown induced by Covid-19 pandemic in the country.
Of the rest, 10 percent is matured for harvesting while 13 percent is not ripe yet, the agriculture ministry said in a press release today quoting the data received from the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE).
Farmers faced difficulty to harvest Boro paddy this year amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic as farm hands were not available due to the lockdown measures in place for curbing Covid-19 spread.
The agriculture ministry mobilised at least 60,000 workers at haor areas from different parts of the country, Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque told this correspondent recently.
According to the DAE, the Boro crop was cultivated on 445,399 hectares of land this year in the haor region under Kishoreganj, Netrokona, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Sylhet and Brahmanbaria districts.
