5 madrasa teachers held over child’s death in Ctg

Five madrasa teachers have been arrested in connection with a case filed over the death of an 11-year-old in Chattogram city’s Bayazid area yesterday.

The child, Habibur Rahman, a student of Omar Faruk Al-Islamia Madrasa and Orphanage, was found hanging from the bars of a window at the madrasa mosque.

Victim’s father Anisur Rahman filed a murder case with Bayazid Police Station today, accusing Abu Darda Khan, the principal, and Md Tarekur Rahman, a teacher, and seven anonymous others over the murder, our local staff correspondent reports.

Chattogram Metropolitan Police’s Additional Deputy Commissioner (North) Mizanur Rahman confirmed The Daily Star of the development.

Those arrested were Darda, Tarek, and three other teachers of the madrasa Md Jubayer, 29, Md Anas Ali, 29 and Md Abdus Samad, 48.

Quoiting family members and students, ADC Mizan said “During prima facie, police came to know that Habib was beaten by Tarek often, and the victim had earlier fled the madrasa over the issue few days ago.”

In the case statement, victim’s father Anisur Rahman alleged that Habib was beaten before two to three days. On April 10, madrasa teacher Tarek phoned him and said Habibur went missing from the madrasa.

After few hours, principal Darda again phoned him and told Habib committed suicide by hanging himself inside the mosque, he said in the statement.

Talking to the newspaper victim’s father said: “Habib got admitted to the madrasa a year ago. My elder son Mizanur Rahman is also a student of the same madrasa.”

“As Tarek Hujur (teacher) beat him UP often, Habib came to the house three days ago and he (Habib) was sent back to the madrasa after pursuing,” he said.

The victim’s father claimed that there was no reason for his son to commit suicide. “He was murdered.”

The body was handed over to the family members after autopsy, said police.
