3 get life for murder

A court in Bogra yesterday sentenced three people to life term imprisonment and fine of Tk 10 thousand each for killing a trader.

Md. Hafizur Rahman, Additional Session Judge of Bogra, announced the verdict before a crowded court. If the fine is not paid they will have to spend one more year in jail.

The victim was poultry trader Ruhul Amin, 23, son of Solaiman Ali of Majgram village of Nandigram.

The three convicted are Ariful Islam, 24, son of Aynul Ali  of Bandaikhara village under Kahaloo upazila, Zakaria Hossain, 25, son of Jalal Uddin Mondal of Pathan Mirzapur village, and Shabina Yesmin, 31, wife of the victim.

Police and the case statement said that the deceased's wife Shabina had an extra-marital relation with Ariful. They planned to kill Ruhul Amin to remove the barrier to their illegal relation.

Locals said Ruhul went to his poultry farm near his house on October 21, 2009 but did not return. His body was found floating on a pond the following day.

The deceased's younger brother Abdul Hakim lodged a murder case against the three with Nandigram police station on October 22, 2009. Zakir Hossain, sub-inspector of Nandigram Police Station, arrested the accused and placed the charge sheet in the court on January 25, 2010.

Contacted, Zakir Hossain said that the convicted confessed to the magistrate that he and Shabina vowed to the kill Ruhul so that they could enjoy their relation for a long time. 

Advocate Rezaul Haque, Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) of Bogra court, and advocate Nasimul Karim Holy pleaded in favour of the government while advocate Abdul Based pleaded in favour of the convicted.
