2 fishermen missing as trawler capsizes near Maheshkhali

Two fishermen were missing after a fishing trawler capsized in the sea near Sonadiya Island under Cox's Bazar's Maheshkhali upazila following a collision with a sand-laden barge.
Eight other fishermen were rescued.
The incident took place around 11:00pm on Wednesday when the barge of Matarbari Coal Power Plant project collided with the fishing trawler, Maheshkhali Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Mahfuzur Rahman said quoting the rescued fishermen.
The rescued fishermen said they were afloat at sea for around three hours before another fishing trawler rescued them.
Owner of the capsized trawler, Md Karim of Sonadiya's Purbapara village, filed a general diary with Maheshkhali Police Station in this connection.
Coast Guard and Navy personnel are searching for the missing fishermen, the UNO added.
