15 hurt in clash, eight held

At least 15 people were injured in a clash between two rival groups at Kanyadah village in Harinakundo upazila yesterday.

Police arrested eight people in this connection, said Officer in Charge (OC) Md Ashaduzzaman of Harinakundo Police Station.

Locals said there was a longstanding conflict between one Jahid Mondol and Saiful Islam of the village over establishing supremacy in the area.

As a sequel to the conflict, the men of the two rivals attacked each other with lethal weapons, leaving at least 15 people from both sides injured.

Of the injured, 12 were admitted to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital while the rest given first aid.

Despite repeated calls, Jahid and Saiful could not be contacted as their cellphones remained switched off.

Additional police have been deployed in the area to avoid any further trouble, said the OC.
