Man surrenders after killing wife

A man surrendered to police after killing his wife at Khalisha-Kutirpara village under Badarganj upazila of the district yesterday.

Police said the accused, Mizanur Rahman, 33, son of Abdus Sobhan of the village, slit the throat of his wife Arifa Begum, 25, daughter of late Shahid Uddin of Choto Hajipur-Dangapara village in the upazila following an altercation over a family matter early yesterday.

Later, Mizanur surrendered to Badarganj Police Station and confessed to killing his wife, police said.

Victim's family said Mizanur, owner of 'Ujala Studio' at Badarganj municipality area, married Arifa around nine years ago. They often locked in altercation over trivial matters, they added.

On Sunday night, Mizanur and Arifa again had a quarrel over a family matter. At one stage, he beat up Arifa and slit her throat. Mizanur told police that he was unhappy with his wife.
