Man to die for murder
A court here yesterday sentenced a man to death for killing a housewife allegedly over a land dispute in Sharankhola upazila of the district in 2012.
The death penalty awardee is Ruhul Hawladar, 41, son of Ismail Hawladar of Uttar Tafalbari village in the upazila.
According to the prosecution, there was a dispute between Ruhul and his neighbour Rustom Ali Hawladar over the ownership of a piece of land.
On May 28 in 2012, Ruhul entered Rustom's house and hacked his wife Farida Begum with a cleaver, leaving her dead on the spot.
While fleeing the spot, villagers caught Ruhul and handed him over to the police.
Deceased's sister Aleya Begum filed a murder case with Sharankhola Police Station the same night.
Sub-Inspector Refatul Islam, also investigation officer of the case, submitted charge sheet against Ruhul on August 8 the same year.
Jakir Hossain of Additional District and Sessions Judge delivered the verdict in presence of the convict.
