Largest science lesson: Bangladesh set to break world record

Bangladesh is all set to make a Guinness book record by holding the world’s largest practical class on science and ICT today, involving over 3,200 schoolchildren.

The class was organised by Kuliarchar Upazila administration on the premises of Begum Nurunnahar Girls' Pilot High School in Kishoreganj, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo.

Earlier on August 12 last year, the largest practical class, involving 2,900 students, was held in Brisbane, Australia.

A total of 21 LCD monitors were installed for the practical class. Thirty teachers, led by popular writer and Professor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) Zafar Iqbal, conducted the class.

Eighty other ICT and science teachers of different schools of Kuliarchar are assisting him, the Bangla daily said.

Among others, Science and Technology Minister Yafes Osman, State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak were present at the programme.

Kuliarchar Upazila Nirbahi Official (UNO) Urmi Binte Salam said video clips of the programme will be sent to Guinness World Records authorities.

Then the authority will take a decision, she added.
