Killers of Dipankar yet to be arrested
Over a decade into the brutal murder, journalist Dipankar Chakrabarty's killers are yet to be brought to justice.
Dipankar, 54, former vice president of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists, was hacked to death at Shannalpara in Sherpur municipality on October 2 in 2004 when he was returning home from his workplace in Bogra town.
His son Partho Sharothi Chakrabarthy later filed a murder case with Sherpur Police Station, accusing unidentified criminals. The case was later shifted to Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
But two consecutive investigation officers submitted final reports and the complainant placed naraji (no-confidence) petition to the court each time.
Failing to trace out the main killers, the then Assistant Superintendent of Police (CID) Abdus Samad Mia submitted final report, releasing 7 suspected arrestees in mid-2013.
Demanding further investigation and punishment of the killers of Dipankar, journalists of Bogra will form a human chain in the town today.
