Jubo League activist murder accused killed in Ctg ‘gunfight’
The lone accused in Jubo League activist Mosaddekur Rahman murder case was killed in a "gunfight" with police in Chattogram's Satkania upazila early today.
The deceased is Md Sohel (32) of Bardona area in Satkania, our Chattogram correspondent reports quoting police.
"Following Sohel's arrest, police took him to Kotowal Dighirpar in Gazirpara area where Mosaddekur was murdered. They took Sohel there to recover the knife which was used in the killing and dumped in a pond," Sofiul Kabir, officer-in-charge (OC) of Satkania Police Station said told this newspaper.
When police reached the spot, "miscreants who were taking drug and gambling there" opened fire, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate, triggering the "gunfight", the police officer said.
Sohel suffered bullet injuries during the "gunfight" and died on the spot while his cohorts managed to flee the scene, the OC said.
Police recovered a light gun, alcohol and 65 yaba pills from the spot.
Sohel was accused in two cases -- including one for the murder -- filed with the police station, OC Sofiul Kabir said.
On June 22, Mosaddekur and his younger brother Faisal were stabbed allegedly by Sohel after they protested against his (Sohel's) drug business in Bardona area of the upazila. Later, Mosaddekur succumbed to his injuries at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
