Jhalakathi BCL men clash over formation of district committee
At least three people, including a journalist, were injured in a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League over formation of new committee of the party's district unit on Monday.
A case was filed against 30 people in this connection, said Md Abdus Salam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
The clash took place soon after the central BCL approved the new committee. It angered the supporters of the leaders of the previous district committee, said BCL insiders.
Shafiqul Islam, president of the new committee, alleged that a group led by outgoing district unit BCL president Sayeed Hadisur Rahman Milon attacked him and his men.
Refuting the allegation, Milon said the new committee was formed in an undemocratic way.
The central leaders took huge money from the new leaderships of the district and announced the committee where devoted and sacrificed Chhatra League leaders were deprived, alleged Milon.
Central BCL President HM Badiuzzaman Sohag and General Secretary Siddiqui Nazmul Alam announced the names of the office bearers of 16 committees including US and Russia, from Dhaka just four days ahead of a new central council scheduled to be held on 25-26 July to elect new leadership, said party sources.
