Miscreants have physically assaulted a Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal leader and vandalised her residence in Gopalbari Bottola area of Sherpur allegedly over political enmity and land dispute.

Some seven-eight persons suddenly attacked Nurjahan Begum, 53, with iron rods around 10:00pm last night when she was returning from a hospital after meeting her sick daughter, Nurjahan said.

Nurjahan is a member of the district unit Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal and a former municipality councillor.

Hearing her scream, locals rescued her and rushed her to Sherpur Sadar Hospital.

She had suffered a broken right hand and there were multiple injuries on her body, Rahat Mahfuz, emergency medical officer of Sherpur District Sadar Hospital, said.

Later, she was shifted to Mymenshingh Medical College Hospital for better treatment, the doctor added.

Before attacking her, the miscreants looted and vandalised her residence, damaging property worth up to Tk 8 lakh, Nurjahan said in a complaint filed with the Sherpur Sadar Police Station.

She filed the complaint last night accusing 11 identified and 80-90 unidentified persons.
