Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said the victory of Bangladesh in the ICC Under-19 World Cup is a gift for the nation in Mujib Borsho (Mujib Year).

She also said the team will be accorded a grand reception after their return home to celebrate this incredible success.

The PM made the comments before addressing the cabinet today.

The young Tigers picked up the coveted trophy after beating India by three wickets in the final of the tournament at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom, South Africa yesterday.

She also reflected upon the time when Bangladesh national cricket team was given a grand reception at Manik Mia Avenue in 1997 after they became champions in the ICC tournament.

The players worked hard work for the last four years and “they showed an excellent performance throughout the tournament,” she noted.
