Housewife murdered for dowry in Joypurhat

A housewife was killed allegedly by her husband for dowry in Joypurhat district on Tuesday.

 The woman was identified as Simi Akhter, 22, daughter of Rafiqul Islam of Arafatnagar area in the town.

 Police and family sources said, Simi married Liton Mia, 30, son of Mozammel Haque of Ayma-Budhoil village in Panchbibi upazila six months ago. After their marriage, Liton often tortured her for dowry.

 Being fed up at this, Simi at one stage left her husband's home and started living at her father's house.

On Tuesday morning, Liton brought Simi to his house and strangled her following an altercation over the issue.

On information, police rushed to the spot at around 3:00pm, recovered the body and sent it to Joypurhat Modern Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Abdur Rashid, officer-in-charge of Joypurhat Police Station, confirmed the incident. 

Away in Thakurgaon, police recovered the body of a housewife from a tree beside her father's house at Bhaturia village in Haripur upazila on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Monika, 24, wife of Mahbub Hossain of Beldangi village, reports our correspondent.

Locals said Monika married Mahbub last year. Monika came to her father's house from her in-laws house a few days ago.

On Tuesday morning, villagers found her body hanging from a tree beside their house and informed the police.

The law enforcers then went to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The reason behind the death would be known after getting the autopsy report, said OC of Haripur Police Station Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman.

Our Moulvibazar correspondent adds: A housewife was stabbed allegedly by her husband in Sultan Mahmudpur village in Sadar upazila of Habiganj on Monday night.

The victim was identified as Sheuly Akhter, 35, wife of Abdus Salam of the village.

Locals said Salam locked in an altercation with his wife over a trivial matter and at one stage, he stabbed her.

She was admitted to Habiganj Sadar Hospital.
