Bangladeshi companies have been declared citizens of the country.
The High Court today declared companies which were founded by a Bangladesh national as Bangladeshi citizens.
The court also declared illegal the existing escalation protocol (by which business of a Bangladeshi company is suspended) of Alliance Apparel, the North American garments buyer forum.
The HC directed the alliance and its signatory North American buyer forum to formulate a proper escalation protocol in collaboration with government and the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
The HC bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal came up with the verdict after hearing a writ petition filed by Bangladeshi company BHIS Apparels Ltd challenging the alliance's decision of 2016 to suspend the business of this company, Barrister Imtiaz Moinul Islam, lawyer for the writ petitioner, told The Daily Star.
