Ex-mayor of Rangpur city Jhantu dies

Former mayor of Rangpur City Corporation Sharfuddin Ahmed Jhantu died at a Dhaka hospital this afternoon.

Jhantu died at Labaid Hospital in the capital around 3:45pm, Tushar Kanti Mondal, general secretary of Rangpur city Awami League unit, told our Dinajpur correspondent.

He suffered a stroke on January 31 and was admitted to a hospital in Rangpur. He was shifted to Labaid Hospital by an air ambulance on the following day.

Jhantu, who was also an advisor of Rangpur AL, was elected as the first mayor of Rangpur City Corporation held on December 20, 2012.
