A couple was killed when a chunk of earth of rain-soaked hill fell on their house in Chakaria upazila of Cox's Bazar early today.

The victims were identified as Md Sadek, 36, and his wife Walida Begum, 24, both of them worked as day labourers.

Confirming the incident, Abdul Matlab, chairman of Bamobilchhari union of the upazila, told our staff correspondent the incident took place at Bamobilchari due to heavy downpour around 1:30am when the couple was asleep at their home.

The bodies were recovered by locals in the morning, the chairman said.

Meanwhile, Chakaria Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Nuruddin Muhammad Shibli Noman said that they are trying to evacuate the people who are living under the threat of landslides.
