Rickshaw-van puller held for raping 4 kids in Bogura: Cops

A rickshaw-van puller was held in Bogura’s Dhunat upazila yesterday on charge of raping four kids – two first graders and two third graders.

In primary interrogation, detainee Joynal Abedin, 52, a resident of Khaduli village in the upazila, confessed to his crimes, police claimed.

The law enforcers detained him from Khaduli Bazar area yesterday and sent him to the Bogura court today, our district correspondent reports quoting Md Ismail Hossain, officer-in-charge of the Dhunat Police Station.

The victims, who were raped between Sunday and Friday, have been sent to the Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for medical test from Dhunat Upazila Health Complex today.

Gaziur Rahman, additional superintendent of police (Sherpur Circle), told that “Joynal was alone at his house as his three sons live in Dhaka as they work at a garment factory there, and his wife away as she went to visit their daughter.”

The accused has an olive tree at his yard and children of the village used to visit his house for green olives, said the ASP.

First on Friday noon, he raped two third graders luring them with green olives and later on Sunday he again violated two other first graders, who went his house to collect the olives, the police official said.

He also threatened the victims for not to tell anyone about the incidents, ASP Gaziur said.

Later, one of the first graders became sick and shared the incident to her family members, the police official added.

The parents of the four children went to the local union parishad chairman, who informed the incident to police.

Based on the chairman’s complaint, police detained the accused.

The victims’ fathers filed two separate rape cases against Joynal yesterday afternoon, the OC said.
