At least 10 people were injured in crude bomb blasts at the Shaheed Minar in Jessore early today when people were paying their tributes.

Ten people were detained in this connection, reports our Benapole correspondent, quoting Elias Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Jessore Kotwali Police Station.

Locals and eyewitnesses said some miscreants hurled two crude bombs targeting the altar of the Shaheed Minar around 12:20am, triggering panic in the whole area.

The blasts came soon after local lawmaker Kazi Nabil Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner Humayun Kabir and district police Superintendent Anisur Rahman paid their respects, said Shafin Mahmud, assistant superintendent of Jessore police.

Police fired 15 rounds of shots to bring the situation under control, he added. Police also recovered another unexploded crude bomb from the area.

A case was lodged with the Kotwali Police Station in this regard, said its OC Elias Hossain.
