UPDF member shot dead in Rangamati

Blood continues to spill in the hill tracts as yet one more political killing took place under broad daylight in Rangamati today.

The victim was identified as Uday Bikash Chakma 45, a member of United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF), our local correspondent reports.

He is said to be an organiser of the party in Bongol Toli union.

According to police and witnesses, Bikash was having tea in Horenga Toli, Baghaichhari upazila around 11:00am when unknown miscreants shot him.

He died on the spot, Muhammad MA Monjur, officer-in-charge of Baghaichhari Police Station, told The Daily Star. “Police recovered the body.”

The hit is yet to be claimed by anybody.

UPDF men have been selectively targeted throughout the entire of last year.

Before the national elections on December 30, one UPDF members was killed in November, two in September and three back in August in the hills.
