Attack on Rabi Das community: 20 sued

One Sunil Rabi Das filed a case yesterday on charge of attacking the houses of Rabi Das community in Gouripur upazila of the district early Monday.

Some 20 people including four named ones -- Billal Hossain, 22, Rubel Mia, 23, Apu, 21, and Mahbubur Rahman, 22, were made accused in the case, Delwar Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Gouripur Police Station, said, adding that police will take action against the culprits.

“A group of local youths attacked on our houses in Gobindapur Bazar area of Moilakanda union under Gouripur early Monday,” Sunil said.

“We recently started extending our dwelling houses for well accommodation of some 15 members but some local youths asked us not to extend the houses on the land without their permission,” alleged Sunil.

“Around 2:00am on Monday, the youths ransacked our houses and looted construction materials including concrete pillars, tin and wood,” he said.

Shamsul Alam, a ward member of Moilakanda union, said the community has been living on the land for one and a half centuries and the youths might have made the attack as they did not get any 'financial gain' from the community.
