'Robber' killed in Savar 'gunfight'

An alleged robber was killed in a “gunfight” with police in Savar on the outskirts of the capital yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Rubel, 26, from Tangail, a member on inter district highway robbers gang, our local correspondent reports quoting police.

AFM Sayed, officer in charge of Detective Branch of police (Dhaka north), said, acting on a tip-off, law enforcers conducted a drive in Tongibari area.

Sensing law enforcers’ presence the robbers started to open fire, prompting them (law enforcers) to retaliate and triggering a “gunfight”, he described.

During the gunfight Rubel died on the spot, the OC said.

Later, his body was sent to Savar Upazila Health Complex.
