874 turtles recovered in Benapole

Border guards recovered 874 turtles worth over Tk 2 crore from India-bordering Benapole area of Jessore’s Sharsha upazila early today.

Tipped-off, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) raided Kagojpukur around 7:30am, reports our Benapole correspondent quoting authorities.

The turtles were found in 20 sacks, Lt Col Jahangir Hossain, commanding officer of BGB 26th battalion said. “We believe they are of rare species.”

No one was detained in this connection. The seized turtles were handed over to Khulna Animal Resources Department. Later, a case was filed in this regard.
