4 workers die while lifting stone in Sylhet

Six still missing

Four workers including a woman died and six others went missing as a chunk of mud from a stone quarry fell on them while they were lifting stones in Jaflong of Sylhet.

One of the deceased was identified as Nur Mia, 40, from Karamshree of Osmaninagar upazila. The identities of the rest of the victims could not be known immediately. 

The four bodies were recovered from the spot while the other six workers are still missing, said Bishwajit Kumar Paul, local UNO, told our Moulvibazar correspondent from the spot.

Around 10 workers were working at the stone quarry near Jumpar Mandir area when a chunk of mud fell on them around 4:45 pm, he said.

The bodies were sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College for autopsy.
