River police to conduct special drive across all the fishing terminals and chain shops during the ban on catching, selling, transporting and hoarding of hilsa from October 1 to October 22.

River police will conduct special drive across all the fishing terminals and chain shops during the ban on catching on catching, selling, transporting and hoarding of hilsa from October 1 to October 22.

In a bid to protect hilsa mother fish during its peak breeding season, the river police will conduct the drive, according to press release. The decision was taken at a meeting in the River police headquarters today, according to a press release.

Sheikh Maruf Hasan, deputy inspector general (DIG) of river police was present in the meeting as chief guest.

During this period, police officials will also hold meeting with local representatives, political leaders, stakeholders, government officials and leaders of bus, truck and launch associations in order to create awareness to save hilsa.

The government has imposed a ban on catching, selling, transporting and hoarding of hilsa from October 1 to October 22.
