Customs Intelligence today detained three people in Dhaka for their alleged link with the cocaine consignment seized at Chittagong port.
Detainees – Atiqur Rahman and Mostafa Kamal – were trying to re-export the consignment from the Chittagong port, said Moinul Khan, director general of Customs Intelligence.
The DG unveiled the facts while addressing a press conference at its headquarters in Dhaka this afternoon.
They were assigned in the job by a Bangladeshi-born UK citizen named Bakul Mia, a relative of the detainees, Moinul added.
Being tipped off, a Customs Intelligence team detained Atiqur Rahman, commercial manager of Mandal Group by launching a drive around 10:00am in Uttara area, the official said.
Later, Kamal was detained in Gulshan area with the help of Atiqur, he added.
Meanwhile, AK Azad, manager of Cosco Ship BD, was also detained elsewhere in the capital today in this connection.
A total of four people have so far been detained for their alleged involvement with the cocaine consignment seized incident.
Earlier on June 6, detectives detained Golam Mostafa Sohel, manager of Khan Jahan Ali Ltd, in this connection and he was taken for a five-day remand today, Tanvir Arafat, additional deputy commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (DB), told The Daily Star.
