18 held for netting parshey larvae

Forest Department detained 18 fishermen for netting larvae of parshey illegally from the Pasur river yesterday morning.

The forest guards of Dhangmari station of the eastern Sundarbans also seized two trawlers from their possession, said Kamrul Islam, officer of Chandpai range.

They arrested the fishermen while netting larvae of parshey in the river, said Kamrul.

They also seized 60 kg of parshey larvae from their possession. The parshey larvae was later released in the river, he said.

Netting all kinds of fish larvae is prohibited in the Sundarbans, said the range officer.
