Taposh takes office as mayor of DSCC, pledges to take measures against dengue
Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh took office as the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) today.
DSCC Chief Executive Officer Shah Md Imdadul Haque formally handed over the charge to Taposh at a programme at the DSCC Nagar Bhaban office around 1:00pm.
Later, in an online press conference held at the same place, Taposh said he would take steps for providing services to Covid-19 infected patients, controlling the mosquito problem, and cleaning up all roads and streets in Dhaka South City Corporation area.
"I will build a developed Dhaka for the welfare of its dwellers taking advice and cooperation from all people," Taposh said.
Describing the coronavirus outbreak as a sensitive issue everyone across the globe, Taposh said, "We will have to ensure a proper balance between the life and livelihood of people amid the coronavirus crisis."
He said he would fulfill the basic services for the city dwellers and make sure those services reach the doorsteps of city dwellers within three months.
Claiming that June to September is a peak period for the spread of dengue, Taposh said he would take effective measures to deal with the mosquito issue.
The elections to the DSCC and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) were held on February 1, where ruling Awami League's candidates Taposh and Atiqul Islam won the elections to become the mayors of the two city corporations.
